The crucifix in this bottle is well carved and selectively highlighted with black ink. Christ has a halo made from a thin strip of wood, and wood-shaving flowers stand on either side of the cross. IHS, carved in relief, is on the top of the cross. This bottle artist is represented by four other examples in these pages but remains anonymous. One of the bottles came from a small town in eastern Connecticut, and another was found in New Mexico, but a woman from Cincinnati, Ohio, wrote to say that she recognizes these bottles as being made by a Cincinnati fireman around 1900; he supposedly made them as gifts.
