| Despite the small size of this bottle, the carving and whittling on this cross is fine, chip-carving reminiscent of tramp art. A pale yellow liquid fills the bottle. Usually, the liquid in liquid-filled bottles turns out to be some kind of whiskey. The most widely held theory is that makers of religious bottles in whiskey were saying that the cross can conquer the temptation of alcohol. Also it has been suggested that the whiskey killed pain, and the refilling of the bottle with a religious message also kills pain, perhaps brought on by loneliness. |
